A wall you read left to right
The Nine-Dragon Wall is a flat freestanding panel with nine relief dragons, so the visitor reads it as a sequence moving across the surface rather than as one object in the round. Relief is the right call for a boundary or a backdrop, because it fills a long, thin site, a wall between two spaces, that a free-standing sculpture would leave empty. The nine figures are posed so the eye travels from one to the next without a dead gap, which is the hard part of composing a wall: the dragons have to overlap their scrollwork enough to feel like one composition but stay separate enough to count.
Nine colour programmes, not one wash
Each dragon runs its own lighting programme, so the wall can hold nine different colour stories at once, or run a single sweep that travels across all nine on a timer. This is what separates it from a printed backdrop, where every dragon is locked to one tone. We tune the programmes so neighbouring dragons stay distinct at night but the whole wall still reads as one plane from across a plaza. The relief depth is shallow enough to light evenly, because a deep relief throws shadows that would hide the lower dragons.
What is hard to build in relief
A relief wall looks simple and is not. Each dragon is shaped wirework standing proud of the panel, then skinned in silk, and every one has to sit at the same stand-off or the wall looks dented. The panel itself is a rigid steel frame faced so it does not bow between fixings, because a bowed wall throws the whole dragon row out of line. The dragons at the ends get extra bracing, since they are the ones a crowd leans toward and the ones most exposed to wind on an outdoor install.
Width, colour and what the buyer sets
The wall width and height are set to your boundary or backdrop rather than to a fixed panel size, because a nine-dragon wall over a short entrance reads very differently from one closing off a long festival axis. The colour programme for each dragon is set in the quotation, and the whole wall can be re-tuned after delivery through the controller. We confirm the site width, the viewing distance and whether the wall is indoor or outdoor before manufacture, since the frame bracing and the fixing spec both follow from those answers.
