A king at the centre of the scene

The crowned gingerbread king is the anchor of the kingdom, built taller than the surrounding pieces so the eye lands on him first and then travels out to the cottages and the dancing children. He stands in a slightly turned pose, one arm raised, which keeps him from reading as a flat cut-out when visitors walk around the group. The crown and the icing seams are hand-painted after the silk is stretched, because those lines decide whether he looks regal or blank at close range where children will be looking up at him.

Cottages and candy canes as the perimeter

The candy-cane cottages form the edge of the scene and frame the walking route, their striped columns lit so the stripes stay distinct after dark. Between them the dancing gingerbread kids are smaller figures placed low, at child height, so families with young children get a second point of interest near the ground. The spacing is designed so the group fills a plaza corner without closing off the path that runs past it, which keeps the trail moving.

Warm light that reads as bake

The whole kingdom runs warm, with the icing and the candy work picked out in a slightly brighter tone than the biscuit body. Each cottage is its own lighting zone, so a damaged one can be dimmed while the rest stay lit, and the king can be given a slow pulse that separates him from the static houses. The LED load stays within the 50 to 300W band by scale, so a single outdoor circuit runs the full group.

Re-dressing a seasonal village

The gingerbread group is a linked set of segment frames that break down into flat crates for transport and store dry between seasons. The silk covers are removed and rolled, and the painted detail is checked and touched up before the next installation. Because the pieces are modular, the layout can be re-shaped to fit a different mall footprint or trail width the following year without new tooling.

Setting the village footprint

The kingdom is a linked set, so the buyer gives the mall footprint or trail width and we shape the layout to it without new tooling. The silk covers are removable so the icing tones can be re-covered and the candy stripes repainted each season. Each cottage is its own zone, so a damaged one dims while the king and rest stay lit.
